The Last Card Remnants of 2011

Hello all, hope you all survived the New Year. The first mail of 2012 arrived today, just a single card , but it's a keeper. However that's for another day, hopefully tomorrow. Today I have to finish up 2011. During the past year I received 552 cards, bringing my grand total since March of 2006 to 2154. Not too shabby, hey ? Now let's get to those cards. Today's cards are the last cards, the last remnants of 2011. Let me just add here, that during the past year I added in my Postcrossing profile and also mentioned here on the blog a couple times , that I have aquired a liking for a couple of postcard types. These include Airlines, Aircraft, Post Boxes, Post offices and Manhole Covers. I have started to see an increase of these type of cards arriving, with the exception of Manhole Covers. Of course, that's not to say that I wouldn't welcome other types, any and all cards are welcome here. So with that in mind, my cards for this time just happen to center around these types for the most part. Without further ado, let's get to it.

My first card for today comes from Macau, one of two Special Administrative Regions of the People's Republic of China. The front of the card gives us a look at the casino night scene located there. The back of the card is even more interesting for me. Michael used a beautiful souvenir sheet from 2004. The sheet has just a single stamp but the remainder is filled with Air Macau aircraft, flight crew and logos. The stamp and sheet commemorates the 10th anniversary of Air Macau. Thank you Michael for a great surprise. Michael operates a couple of blogs and a website and you can find them here , here and here.

Card # 2 is from Tampere, Finland. It shows a post office box with a hand dropping a letter into it. A Postcrosser named Elisa sent this one and used a really nice stamp. She writes that it is a special stamp issued for the Hameenlinna Medieval Market and Fair of 2011. I couldn't find any information on this stamp so therefore I believe it is a personalised stamp that Elisa or someone she knows had issued. It is a nice stamp though, much better that Canada's so called personal postage.

The next card, another postbox card comes from Oakland, Ca., U.S.A. I believe these boxes to be located in The Netherlands or somewhere over that way. There is nothing about their location anywhere on the card itself. Lynn used 2 fine stamps on this card. The 2011 Tiger stamp is a First Class Rate , Save Vanishing Species stamp. The Zora Neale Hurston was issued in 2003 and honors Hurston who was a novelist, folklorist and anthropologist.
Here is a postcard showing a Post Office. It was the first automated post office and is located in Providence, R.I., U.S.A. It was completed in 1960. I'm not going to detail all the stamps here, but you can see 6 different Christmas stamps from different years. Also , there is a 1957 , 50th anniversary of Oklahoma Statehood stamp.

Now for a couple of aviation related cards. First up is a card from Ukraine. The card though shows a number of views of Frankfurt Airport. Not that I'm counting but I can see over 45 aircraft on this card. The views on the top left and top right of the B747s, these are great views, in my opinion the best. Now let's look at the stamp. It was issued in 2011 , 1 of 2 in a set, issued for the 1st Ukraine Movie-Opera. I hope I got that right, I had trouble finding information on this one.

This next card is an ad card for Air Finland, advertising flights to Alicante and Malaga , Spain.
It is flight or airline thematic so will fit well in my collection of cards. That guy sitting there, looking out the window could be me , come March, looking out over Santiago , Chile on landing. I won't be dressed like that , though. Now of course, we've all seen the Finland flag stamp before, but here it is one more time. It was issued in 2006.

The final card for today, another aircraft card, not really it's actually a ship card. A nice card though. The ship is the Pacific Notus. It is 293.55 m in length and has a gross tonnage of 111,553 ton. Koichi , a Postcrosser sent this card from Japan. She wrote that she did not have any airplane cards and hoped that a ship card would do. And it does. Koichi used a 2008 stamp from a m/s of 10.
That does it for this time. Hope you enjoyed reading , as much as I enjoy receiving them. Leave a comment and tell me about it, if you want. Take care, be back soon.

Neat stuff! I just got a bunch of old (unused) stamps and thought of you. You want to swap before our postal service raises their rates? I'll send you an email.

The "ship" card is actually a vessel designed for transport of liquefied natural gas. Kind of an engineering marvel, actually
