Big Buildings , Ladies and a A220

BLOG # 1589 --- Day 508 of the Current  ( Second ) Russian Invasion of Ukraine

                                                                  GLORY TO UKRAINE

Hello again. I'm back once more. It has been over a month. I have been busy, the days have been too nice to be inside, I had to make an impromptu visit to Newfoundland during which a family member passed away. And it seems that after a long absence here, it always seem a little more difficult to get back . Of course while I was not blogging, postcards continued to arrive in my mailbox. Now I have lots to chose from. Thank you Josep and Assumpta, Meelis, Bruce, Jean Pierre, Ravindra, Ron, Yvonne, Johan, Dominique, David, Indrit, Yun Ting, Isa and Jobbo,   Thank you one and all for the cards you sent and eventually they should show up here on The Blog.

Since I have an Airline / Aircraft postcard collection, I guess I'll start with this one. It's an Air Baltic Airbus A220/300 , registered as YL-CSD. The Airbus A220 was previously known as the Bombardier CS300 . They can carry between 145 and 160 passengers. YL-CSD was delivered to Air Baltic in June of 2017 and has been stored since November 2022. Ineta , a Postcrosser who lives in Jurmala, a suburb of Riga, Latvia sent this card along.

Ineta used 2 nice stamps on her card. The top one is from 2016 and celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Latvian Membership in the United Nations. The bottom stamp , from 2020, is an Europa stamp , 1 of 2 in a set highlighting Ancient Postal Routes.

Before the next card, I just want to say that today's cards are presented in no particular order of when they arrived, who sent them , what countries they arrived from or anything else except how I take them from the pile on my desk. So next up a card from Spain.
Here we see the Castle of Loarre , in Aragon, in the north of Spain. It is one of the oldest castles in the country. It's initial construction started in 1020 and continued until 1097. Later more construction took place well into the latter part of the 12th century.

Sosep ans Assumpta used a longer than usual stamp from 2020. It Commemorated the 200th Anniversary of the Independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala.

Meelis's card from Monaco is the next card up for viewing. It's a great look at the Monaco Oceanographic Museum, located in Monaco-Ville. Built in 1910 , its committed to sharing its knowledge of the oceans. Four thousand species of fish and over 200 families of invertebrates can be seen in the museum. A must see is the shark lagoon - containing 450,000 liters of seawater behind 30cm of glass . Since 1989 it even has its own coral reef.

Meelis used a wonderful Aviation themed stamp from 2022. It commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of French Aviator Louis Bleriot. He flew the first flight across the English Channel on 25 July 1909. It took 36.5 minutes.

Next up is Namibia. Here's a card from Bruce that shows us a Baobab tree and some Ju/'Hoansi women in Bushmanland. Over  time, the Baobab has adapted to its environment. It is a succulent, which means that during the rainy season it absorbs and stores water in its vast trunk, enabling it to produce a nutrient-dense fruit in the dry season when all around is dry and arid. This is how it became known as "The Tree of Life".

Bruce used 1 of 12 stamps in a Birds of Namibia. The good looking set was issued in 2012.

Time now for the last card of today. It's from Austria and was sent by Yvonne. The card shows a poster called Beach Girls by Paste in Place  aka Rodrigo Pinheiro of Brazil.

Yvonne use 2 stamps both of which show Austrian Ladies. The left stamp , showing Hedy Lamarr was issued in 2011 and the right stamp showing Birgit Jurgenssen was issued in 2022.

Well that's it for this time. My first blog update in more than a month. It feels really good to be back. Hope I didn't lose any readers.
Thanks for today's card go to Ineta, Josep and Assumpta, Meelis, Bruce and Yvonne.
