A Platinum Jubilee, Henri IV's Demise, Air Europe's Super-Caravelle and Mackay's Ice Cream

Well it's been a little longer than I planned, but I'm here now., and that's what counts.

The heavy coverage of Queen Elizabeth's death has now passed, so I thought it a good time to show a Platinum Jubilee card . She ruled from 1952 - 2022. Bruce's card shows two side profiles of Her Majesty, one from her younger days and one from her not so younger days. 

Bruce used a United Kingdom UniversalMail International Postcard rate stamp showing a Metropolitan Police Person. 

My next card is a reproduction of the 19th century work of art by Charles - Gustave Housez showing the assassination of Henri IV of France by Francois Ravaillac on May 14, 1610. 

Dominique used a stamp from this year. It commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the Belfort Territory.

Now is the time to present the latest addition to my Aircraft / Airline Postcard collection. This one is an old Sud-Aviation Super Caravelle 10. The postcard shows Jet Europe's 1964 built F-BMKS,  at Paris-Orly in 1990. This Super-Caravelle was delivered new to Finnair in July of 1964. In 1981 it flew for Europe Air Service and in 1983 Air Charter International. It entered service with Jet Europe in early 1990 and then in late 1990 it was back to Air Charter International. Its last airline service was with Air Toulouse from 1991-2004., when it was scrapped.

   

Jean Pierre used a 2022 stamp also. It shows Le Tourmalet  Hautes-Pyrenees, the highest paved mountain pass in the Pyrenees.  

I'll end off this time with a local card, sent to me by My Lovely Teena, from a recent short road trip to Cochrane, Alberta. Her card shows MacKay's Ice Cream shop on a sunny summer day in the 1990's. That might seem a long time ago but on a sunny summer day in 2022 the crowd and lineup for ice cream is just as it was in the 1990's. Their ice cream is just that good ! After such a lineup just imagine how good it is.

Mackay's started making and selling ice cream in Cochrane in 1948. One day in 1976 their servers scooped over 4500 ice creams. I think their arms might have been a little tired after that.   

Just so you know, the day we were there I had a scoop of butterscotch and a scoop of pina colada on my cone. It was great.

Teena used a Help For Ukraine stamp that Canada Post issued on July 7 of this year. The Canada Post office in Cochrane used a nice postmark that celebrated the town's centennial in 2003.

Canada was the first Western country to recognize Ukraine's independence in 1991. Today 4 percent of Canadians can trace their roots to Ukraine.

The Beatles Yellow Submarine, Rijeka and a Classic Car in Havana

Hey there, I'm back from nowhere, seems I neglected my blog a little. But all is now good again.

I'm starting today with a card from Croatia. It's a look at Rijeka, a Croatian port city of around 128,000 people. It is located on Kvarner Bay in the northern Adriatic Sea. The city has many Baroque buildings, a 13th century castle and several 14th century churches. It is also the terminus for an oil pipeline running to the Northeast. 

Bruce used a 2019 stamp. It is 1 of 4 issued to celebrate Croatian Marian Shrines.

Next is another of the Cuba cards from way back in April. I've told the story of my Cuba postcard experience a couple of times already, so I won't do it again now. I'll just show the card and stamps. The card is a look at an evening in Havana. Old Havana was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site back in 1982. It`s Spanish colonial architecture in 16th century Old Havana is just amazing . And the old classic American cars just continue on and on. 

This card was sent back to me by my Lovely Teena, but was posted in Matanzas by Roxana from our hotel. The left stamp was issued in 2010 and Commemorates the 65th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with Canada. The right stamp, issued in 2015 celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the First Cuban performance by Anna Pavlova. 

Here`s the last card for today. It`s from England in the U.K. It`s The Beatles and their Yellow Submarine Album Cover. Who can forget Yellow Submarine, All Together Now and All You Need is Love. Great songs for sure. 

Ron used a Universal Mail International Postcard Rate stamp showing Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
