Hello and Happy World Post Day to all the Postcard people out there. World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of
the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the
Swiss capital, Berne. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress
held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969.
I should mention also that it's International Postcard Week 2014 ( Oct 5-11 ) . So my all means , keep mailing postcards, that way , you support the UPU and take part in International Postcard Week.
Now on to a few postcards that have traveled through the postal system.
My first card today is the Doors of Dublin, showing traditional Georgian doorways.
David sent this card from Dublin. He used a First Day of Issue Miniature Sheet of 2 different stamps , issued June 12, 2014 , commemorating the first year that Ireland hosted the World Flower Show. The stamps are cancelled "Baile Atha Cliath " meaning "town of the hurdled ford ", which is the common name for the city of Dublin in modern Irish.
Postcard 2 is from Stockholm, Sweden, and shows Stockholm City Hall. Opened in 1923 it stands on the eastern tip of Kungsholmen island, next to
Riddarfjärden's northern shore and facing the islands of Riddarholmen
and Södermalm. Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and the most populous city in
Scandinavia, with 905,184 people living in the municipality,
approximately 1.4 million in the urban area, and a total population
close to 2.2 million in the metropolitan area. The city is also a water city - built on 14 islands.
This card if from my brother Dale who visited and cruised over that way in August. He used a 2014 self adhesive Dragonfly stamp.
A card from Tallinn, Estonia is next. It shows Lauluvaljak - the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds. This is where the Estonian Song Festival is held every five years.
This is another card from frequent contributor Meelis, who used a 2014 Year of the Horse stamp.
This next card is from Andorra, via the French postal system. On it we see Escaldes i Engordany, at an altitude of 1029 m. Escaldes-Engordany is one of the parishes of Andorra. The parish
is composed of the areas of les Escaldes, Engordany, Els Vilars
d'Engordany, Engolasters, and El Fener. As of 2011 it had a population
of 14,395.
Fabienne, check out her great postcard blog here , used a 2014 topical stamp featuring a 1917 La Hispano, Guadalajara.
It's time for the last card for today. It is another card from my brother Dale. This one is from Tallinn Estonia and shows Raekoja plats. Raekoja plats is a town square beside Tallinn Town Hall in the center of the Tallinn Old Town in Tallinn, Estonia .
Dale used a 2013 stamp featuring a 1944 Elmar Kits painting called After Dinner. He also included a larger impression of the painting.
Well, that's it for this time. Hope someone out there enjoyed it. I certainly enjoyed doing it. I'm open to any comments you might want to leave.
Thanks for the cards go to David, Dale, Meelis, Fabienne and Dale one more time.
See you next time.

I always enjoy your posts! I also like it that you try to stick to a theme when possible (like the airplane post).
Nice to see your posts again Glenn!
