Upright or Vertical Postcards

Hello and welcome to October on the blog. I have recently received quite a number of vertical or upright postcards. So, I gathered a bunch and this is what you get today. I guess with them all vertical today's blog will be slightly longer than normal, if you get what I mean.  And , I'm sure that you do.

So let's get to the cards. They're from all over , many countries will see the light here today.

Let's start with Norway. This card comes from Alexandra of Oslo. Her card is of the rear end of a 1964 Citroen 2 CV that appears to have broken down. I guess they got wherever they were going with the little miss pushing. The 2 CV was an economy car produced by the French car maker Citroen betwee 1948 and 1990. It is considered one of Citroen's most iconic cars.

Alexandra used 1 of 3 self-adhesive stamps in a set that was issued in 2011 and titled Tourism, Modern Architecture.

All you train enthusiasts out there should like this next card . It is of an old train moving along the track. Actually though, it is showing a vintage Santa Maria Brand Vegetable Label of the Rosemary Packing Corporation of Santa Maria, California. Sounded more interesting as a train card, didn't it ?

Elizabeth, a mail/post carrier in Santa maria sent this one and used a number of space related and aviation related stamps. The far left stamp was issued in 1975, the top middle in 1977 and this one commemorates the 50th anniversary of Lindbergh's solo transatlantic flight. The bottom middle stamp was issued in 1971 and shows a lunar type vehicle, a mooncar. The stamp on the far right was issued in 1993 and is 1 of 5 in a space fantasy set.

China is up next and this postcard of the Bronze Pavilion of the Summer Palace. Rare among pavilions are those built of bronze. The Bronze Pavilion was built in 1755 and is 7.55 meters high and weighs 207 tons.

A Postcrosser named Fan sent this card and used a number of large stamps. The far left stamp ( it's upsidedown ) was issued in 2004 and is 1 of 4 in a Flower set. The large green stamp was issued in 2007 and is 1 of 3 , marking 10 Years of Hong Kong's return to China. The flower stamp on the right is actually imprinted on the postcard making it a prepaid postcard.

Here's another Norway card. Daniel's card is one showing the Flag of Norway, flying atop a flagpole. The flag , designed by Fredrik Meltzer, was adopted as the national flag in 1821.

Daniel used 1 of 2 stamps from a 2012 Europa , Tourism set.

My next card is a before and after postcard. It shows 2 views of the same view , the top one taken in 1938 and the lower one in 2000. These are views of Rokycany, a town of about 14,000 in the Czech Republic.Rokycany dates from the Stone Age, it was first mentioned in 1110.

Lenka used a new 2012 stamp, celebrating 100 Years of Czech Scouting.

You readers will have to come up with your own info on this next card from Lithuania. Quite possibly the explanation for this card is on the back, but sadly I don't speak the language.

The nice bird stamp that was used is 1 of 2 issued in 2007 as a Nature set. It was issued with a tab between the 2 stamps. The tab is visible to the right .

Anjuly from Rotterdam sent this great view of Amsterdam at night. Nice bike too.

Anjuly used the Postcrossing stamp as all good Postcrossers in the Netherlands should. The Postcrossing stamps were issued in 2011.

I think I'll call it a day here. I still have enough vertical cards for another update, so I'll leave them for next time. Thanks for reading, thanks to all who sent these cards. If you have anything to say about any of this be sure to leave a comment. Take care, and enjoy your postcards and your stamps.
