More Nauru, Isle of Man, Estonia and Planes

Here we go with another update. I think I have said this in the past, you can go years without a card from some place, then you get one and it feels great. Then you get another and maybe another. Well, I went 5 years without a Nauru card, then I made the correct contact and received my first. Now within a span of about 2 weeks, I have received a total of 10. Who would have believed ? That has happened a few other times , also.

Moving on to the cards. Let's have a look at a Nauru card first. Not only is it a card from a so called rare country, but it is an airplane/airline card. Even better for my collection. This one shows a Air Nauru aircraft. It is one of the seven cards received from Sinei. This card is another Nauru Post Paid card , so no stamp to talk about. But a great card for my Aircraft/Airlines on postcards collection.

Now we have another Nauru card. This one is another Air Nauru card, on which we see a B737 in an older paint scheme. On the back of this card, Air Nauru is called the airline of the Central Pacific. Sinei used a 2000 stamp that commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Nauru Phosphate Corporation.

Today's 3rd card comes from Douglas, Isle of Man. Located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland, The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency. It is not part of the U.K. but Queen Elizabeth is the head of state. This card gives us a look at Mooragh Park in Ramsey, a popular public gathering place for the island. I have Jean Pierre to thank for this card. The stamps are 2 of a set of 6 Manx cat stamps, issued in 2011. There is a Victorian saying: “There is no end of cats in the Isle of Man because they have no ends. These are the totally tailless”. There is a cute little ditty on the 37 pence stamp , the one on the left. It goes like this:

No tail bearers are we
If we go on the spree
We've never a tail at all
To set off on our shanks
We are cats of the Manx
And no tail have we got great or small.

Next card up is from Estonia. Sent by Postcrosser Julia, it shows the old Tallinn town hall. This building is one of the oldest town halls in Europe. It was first mentioned in 1322. Julia used a beautiful set of 3 stamps issued for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Now, the final card for this time comes from Delaware, U.S.A. It's a great card in my opinion. It is a line of C-5 Galaxy aircraft at Dover Air Force Base. At the time this card was printed these aircraft were the largest cargo planes in the U.S. Three dozen of these 247 foot long planes were assigned to Dover Air Base. It was the only all C-5 wing in the U.S. Air Force. Many, many years ago when I lived in Goose Bay, Labrador there was always one or two of these massive planes coming or going at Goose Air Base. They were a wonderful sight to behold either landing or taking off or just parked on the ramp. Caitlin , another Postcrosser used a 2009 Grand Teton National Park airmail stamp to get this card to me.

That the update for this time. Thanks for cards going to Sinei, Jean Pierre, Julia and Caitlin. Hope you enjoyed reading and seeing the cards. If so, let me know, if not, still let me know. Your comments are always welcome. Later.

Hi Gem, what an amazing collection of postcards you have in here! I'm an artist and I'm preparing a lecture in which I mention briefly the story of Nauru. I'd love to use one of your postcards from Nauru, please let me know if it's okay. You can email me at cokemanes@gmail.com thanks a lot! Jorge Manes
