Aircraft, Indonesia and Sri Lanka

Blog Post # 994

Hello again. Now that Cruising Thru Postcards # 11 has been put to bed, it's time for some regular cards to shine. Today's first card is from Indonesia, a country I have yet to visit.  It's an aerial view of Lombok, and the Gili Islands. The island is home to over 3.3 million Indonesians and is a neighbour to Bali.

Jean Pierre used 2 wonderful Aviation themed stamps from 2018.  On the left we see aircraft at Rembele Airport in Aceh and on the right , aircraft at Kalimarau Airport in Kalimantan. Nice postmark on this one.

Now here's another Lighthouse card from Sri Lanka. This is the 4th in this series I have received. This time it's Oluvil Lighthouse. This light is located on the southern east coast of the country. It is 29 metres in height and was opened in 1999.

Ravindra used great stamps as well. On the left, from 2013 a stamp celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Death of Dharmadasa Walpola. The 2 stamps on the right are from a set of 18 showing Traditional Sinhalese Exorcism Rituals. The set was issued last year.

Nice circular postmark again.
Ravindra has a blog called " Lighthouses on Post Cards " .  Be sure to give it a look-see.

Time for a card from my past. Another addition to my Airlines  / Aircraft Collection. It's an EPA Boeing 737-200 , one of seven in EPA's fleet. EPA - Eastern Provincial Airways was the backbone of air travel in the 4 Atlantic provinces of Canada in the 1970s. I started work with Eastern Provincial in 1974 and continued on with CP Air when they purchased EPA.  CP Air then merged into Canadian Airlines International and they in turn were bought out by Air Canada.  So that's my 28 year working life in a nut shell. Those were the days !

We find another Aviation stamp on this card. It was issued this year and is 1 of 5 in a set called Canadians in Flight. This particular stamp shows an Avro Arrow, possibly one of the best known planes that never saw mass production. The Avro CF-105 Arrow was a twin-engine , supersonic, interceptor aircraft. The first Arrow was completed in October 1957. Five Arrows were produced before the program was cancelled on February 20, 1959.

One more from the past and from my past. A Canadian Airlines International Boeing 737-200 . This one flew with Canadian until Canadian was bought by Air Canada in 2001. This aircraft is 39.4 years old and has had time with Zip, Canadian North and First Air.  It is still flying with Nolinor Aviation.

Another of the Canadians in Flight stamps  can be found on this card. This one shows a Ultraflight Lazair, one of the best light aircraft ever made.

One more card for today, another one from Indonesia and another one from Jean Pierre. Here's a look at the 9th century Hindu temple at Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Known as Loro Jonggrang, construction started in 850 BC.  It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.

Jean Pierre used a lovely mini-sheet of one featuring the Year of the Pig stamp.

That wasn't  too bad now was it ? Another blog done. I'm getting close to the 1000th entry of Gem's World Postcards. Who would have thought ?
Thanks for dropping in again, see you next time . Thanks for todays' cards  go to Jean Pierre and Ravindra.
