I missed something while I was away in the Caribbean. Gem's World Postcards turned 10 years old on Nov 13th. Ten years, who would have thought ? In those 10 years I have posted 802 updates. So that's 10 down and hopefully another 10 to go.
Now on to the cards. Let's start with this great view of Colombo City, the capital of Sri Lanka.
Ravindra used a quite recent stamp and it received a special postmark. The round stamp celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Sri Lankan Philatelic Bureau. It was cancelled on it's First Day of Issue - 08 Nov 2017.
Next is a nice card from Lyon, France, showing La Place Bellecour. This large square in the centre of Lyon is the home of the equestrian statue of King Louis XI by Francois Lemot. It is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Jean Pierre used a current stamp celebrating the life of French polar scientist Jean-Baptiste Charcot.
My next card is the latest addition to my Airlines / Aircraft postcard collection. It is a Piedmont Airlines Boeing 737 and you can never have or show too many 737s. This card arrived in an envelope along with a couple of other cards, so there isn't a stamp to show. It's a blank card.
Now we have a card from Tate Modern, London. It's a card showing a photograph of a design for Gustav Klutsis's poster called " Marshals of the Revolution " from 1935.
David used a 2017 stamp , 1 of 8 in a set, celebrating Ladybird Books, a London based publishing company.
David has a wonderful blog about postcards and his travels. It's called " Postcards A World Travelogue " . It's certainly worth a look.
I'll close out today with 2 cards from Johan in Belgium. The first is a Merry Christmas / Happy New Year card .
Johan used a 2017 Decorated Christmas Tree stamp and secured a First Day of Issue cancel.
Johan's second card shows a Mwanophwo Mask from the Royal Museum of Central Africa. It is located in Tervuren, just outside Brussels.
This card arrived with a stamp featuring one of the Tervuren Masks. It is 1 of 5 in a really beautiful set issued Oct 23rd. It also received a First Date of Issue cancel.
Be sure to check out Johan's fine postcard blog called " johan postcards " .
That's it for today. Thanks for cards to Johan, David, Jean Pierre and Ravindra. Be sure to drop back next week for more cards. Take care.
Just finished in time, all my family coming to dinner in about an hour.
