October Already !

Well it's a week since my last update. I really thought I would get another one in to end September, but it doesn't always go as planned. And, now September has changed into October, so I have to start all over again. September was a good month though with 8 updates.  We'll see how October goes.

It's day 1 of October and I have 5 great cards to show off . Let's start with this one from Sri Lanka. It is of an area of Horton Plains. Horton Plains National Park is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It was established as a National Park in 1988 and later added as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.One of the most visited parts of the park is World's End, a sheer cliff, with a drop of about 1,200 m straight down.

This is another card from Ravindra. He has a number of postcard and stamp blogs as follows "Lighthouses on Post cards ", " Discover the World On Train ", " Lighthouses on Stamps " and "For U Car Fans ".  You can find one of them  here and you can navigate to the others from there. Ravindra used a number of fine stamps, as always. The top 2 are from the 2014 mini sheet of 10 showing different bodies in our Solar System. This time it's Mercury and Earth. On previous cards from Ravindra I have received Venus , Mars and the Moon. So that's 5 of the 10 I have received. He also used another 2014 stamp, one celebrating 100 Years of Carey College, a private Baptist school in Borella, the largest suburb in Colombo.

Next is a card from Ireland and no it's not from David. I know that's hard to believe but this card is from Iwona, a PostCrosser over that way. The card is of a 1933 black and white photo showing a  number of Polish postmen in Krakow.

Iwona used 2 copies of the 2015 Animal definitive showing a Red Fox. It's from a set of 4.

Samoa - The cradle of Polynesia. It's nice to get a card from here as this is only my third card from Samoa. Samoa is an independent nation comprising the westernmost group of the Samoan Islands in Polynesia. The islands include Upolu Island which is shown on this card and Savai'i   , one of the largest islands in the South Pacific. What's really shown on the card is the area of Pinula Cave Pool. This is a natural freshwater pool by the sea beneath the historic Methodist Chapel on the north coast of Upolu Island. The pool is fed by a spring flowing out of the cave and into the sea.

This card is from a group of  PostCrossers in Samoa called cbfp. There are only 6 PostCrossers in Samoa and this is only the 43rd card sent through the program, so I consider myself quite lucky to have received one of those 43. A nice selection of Samoa stamps arrived on this card. On the left is a 2002 Tourism stamp , 1 of 4 in the set. Next is a 1980 stamp celebrating The Queen Mother's 80th Birthday. The brightly coloured Bird stamp on the right was issued as a part of a  set of 10 definitives. The one shown is the Many Colored Fruit Dove.

The subject matter of this next card is still quite fresh in my mind. It's the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. It's rare that I can say that about a card I receive, but I was indeed in the Sydney Opera House this past April and even sailed under the Sydney Bridge , or the Coathanger as it's known locally. The card shows the view from Mrs Macquaries Point. This is where you find Mrs Macquarie's Chair, an exposed sandstone rock cut into the shape of a bench, hand carved by convicts in 1810 for Governor Macquarie's wife Elizabeth.

Kim used a couple of nice stamps on her card. On the left and in the middle are 2 copies of the Polocrosse stamp from the 2014 set of 5 . Polocrosse is a combination of polo and lacrosse , played on horseback. The other stamp, on the right is an International  Rate stamp showing The Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Now here's the last card for today and it's from Switzerland. It's a reproduction of Heinrich Kuhn's 1908 photo entitled  "Miss Mary ". Kuhn was an Austrian-German photographer.

Denise used 2 fairly recent stamps. On top is a 2011 Flowers stamp, 1 of 4 in the set. The bottom stamp, from 2014 is 1 of 4 stamps showing Mushrooms.

That's the end for today, but just the start for October, so be sure to drop by again , all through the month. Thanks for today's cards go to Ravindra, Iwona, cbfp, Kim and Denise. Great cards all around.   Don't forget, I'm up for comments , if you have any.
