Today's cards are a bit of a mixed bag again. They are from Ukraine, Taiwan, TAAF and France. So without further ado , let's get to it.
First up is a card from Kiev, Ukraine. It is of a bunch of riders on their penny-farthings on a bike path, albeit a dirt one.I always wondered how one might get off of those high seats. The Postcrosser responsible for this card used a 2007 definitive from a set of 7.
Today's second card is from Sevastopol, Ukraine. Sevastopol, I like the sound of that. The city of about 350,000 is a seaport and naval base located on the Black Sea coast of the Crimean peninsula. Administratively it is excluded from the surrounding Autonomous Republic of Crimea. As you can see from the card, it is a nice place to have a sail. Kate used 3 large current stamps. The 2 stamps to the left were issued this year, 2012 and commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko. The stamp on the right , issued in 2011, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth Mykhailo Yanhel.
Now we have a card from Taiwan, Republic of China. This one shows us an older style post box in Taiwan. It's nice to get a post box card. Postboxes, planes and manhole covers , what more could one ask for ? Good Stamps, that's what. Joan used 2 stamps from a set of 4 featuring insects , issued in 2011.
Penguins are up next. Little penguins on the card and many penguins on the stamps. Reminds me a little of my recent trip to the Falklands when we saw and walked among many hundreds of penguins. I remember two that had left the main group and wandered down to the beach. I have a picture of my Lovely Teena standing right next to the two of them and no one else anywhere around. I loved The Falklands and would love to go back for a week's stay. Moving along, this penguin card is from Jean Pierre and was postmarked from T.A.A.F. The French Southern and Antarctic Lands. It is actually from Dumont d 'Urville, Adelie Land. There is a lot of information on the reverse of the card, besides the stamps which were issued in 2012. The longitude and latitude of Dumont d' Urville is given along with a hand stamp of the 62nd French Antarctic Expedition 2012. The larger square hand stamp gives the name of the current Postal Manager on Adelie Land, David Bodin.
Now for the last card of today. It also is from Jean Pierre. It gives us a look at Paris in Africa or Africa in Paris. On it we see a large herd of zebras grazing outside of the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.
I think that would be pretty cool to see.
The stamp used was issued on the 3rd of May 2012 and therefore this card and stamp is a First Day of Issue card. Note the special postmark from La Poste. The stamp is 1 of 4 in a Joint Issue of Art with Hong Kong.
So concludes another update. Thanks to Jean Pierre, Joan and Kate for their postcards. Hope you enjoyed these postcards and will drop back again soon. Feel free to leave a comment , if you have one.
Take care.
